Spring RunOff Reports - to help minimize the risk and damage of flooding. (Wards within the Pleasant Grove, UT Stake Only)

Why be concerned? During the spring, frozen land prevents melting snow or rainfall from seeping into the ground. Each cubic foot of compacted snow contains gallons of water and once the snow melts, it can result in the overflow of streams, rivers, and lakes. Add spring storms to that and the result is often serious spring flooding. Facts: Everyone lives in a flood zone. Most homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. Just an inch of water can cause costly damage to your property. Your home has a 26% chance of being damaged by a flood during the course of a 30-year mortgage, compared to a 9% chance of fire. What to do: Inspect and remove debris from local streambeds and drainage ditches. This can significantly reduce the threat of flooding.  It is also advisable to verify the availability of sandbags in your community.

Involve your ward: You’re not in it alone! Be sure to spread the word in welfare meetings, Relief Society, Priesthood Quorums and other auxiliaries so they can report back to you if they notice any potential flooding.
