Apple Crisp
(Julie Cripe prepared this for anyone to taste during the 2008 Emergency Preparedness Fair in Pleasant Grove, UT)
Ingredients:
4 cups dehydrated apple slices (hydrate apples with 2 cups of hot water)
2/3 to 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup quick-cooking or old fashioned oats (can use 1 packet of instant oatmeal cereal, if no oats are available)
1/3 cup stick margarine, or butter, softened
3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
Preparation:
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease bottom and sides of square pan, 8×8x2 inches, with shortening. Arrange apples in pan. Mix remaining ingredients. Sprinkle over apples. Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender. Serve warm.
* Can substitute dehydrated apples with freeze-dried raspberries or strawberries*. To hydrate raspberries, mix 1/2 cup raspberries to 1 cup warm water. Adjust amount of raspberries to recipe.
